On Friday, 19th September, our school commemorated the 116th birthday of Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, with a series of engaging activities that highlighted his life, achievements, and legacy.
The day began with a biography session, where students learned about Dr. Nkrumah’s remarkable journey, from his early days to his rise as a prominent leader in Ghana’s fight for independence. The session was enriched with pictures and videos, making it an immersive experience for our students.
A timeline creation activity followed, where students visualized Dr. Nkrumah’s life milestones and key events that shaped Ghana’s history. This interactive exercise helped students appreciate the significance of his leadership and vision.
Our students also engaged in a thought-provoking discussion on Dr. Nkrumah’s leadership qualities, exploring how they can emulate his traits to become effective leaders in their own communities. They wrote inspiring paragraphs on how they can make a positive impact in their neighborhoods.
To celebrate Dr. Nkrumah’s cultural heritage, we incorporated traditional Ghanaian games and songs, such as Ampe and Sansankroma, which brought joy and excitement to our students. A captivating dance performance featuring traditional and contemporary Ghanaian dances added to the festive atmosphere.
A drawing competition was also held, where students showcased their artistic talents by depicting Dr. Nkrumah’s life, legacy, and impact on Ghana. The creativity and enthusiasm displayed by our students were truly impressive.
Through these activities, our students gained a deeper understanding of Dr. Nkrumah’s contributions to Ghana’s history and development. We are proud to instill in our students the values of leadership, patriotism, and cultural appreciation that Dr. Nkrumah embodied.
